Forbes Asks You to Help Curate the Most Powerful Women in 2012 List

The Editors at Forbes Magazine are asking for your help in creating their list of the most powerful Women in 2012.  This will be the eight publication of the list.

What sets this list apart from other such lists is that is includes more than just business, wealth or politics. It is based on seven categories or power bases which include: business, lifestyle (including entertainment and fashion), billionaire, media, politics, technology and nonprofit.

There are women who clearly belong on the list such as Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel, politician Aung San Suu Kyi and the CEO of IBM, Ginny Rometty. What about the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton? Or the head of a tiny, impoverished nation?

According to Caroline Howard, of Forbes, “ We’re picky about hard numbers rather than arranging a bouquet of who-we-like or women-who-help-women. To determine the rank within each category, as well as overall rank on the list of 100, we apply four metrics: dollars, a traditional and social media component, points for multiple power bases and momentum.”

For money, company revenue or salary are key factors;’ for lifestyle and , their own Forbes Celebrity 100 list provides input, as doe their Billionaire List. Non-profits get measured by dollars spent towards their organization’s mission. News hits and media appearances factor in as do social media reach.

Technology is a new category to the list as is the momentum metric.
