Startup Kindara Uses iPhone to Help Women Get Pregnant

KINDARA FOR the IPHONE, call itself The Intelligent and Organized Way to Get Pregnant. Created by Kati Bicknell and husband Will Sacks, Kindara is the new easy-to-use fertility charting app for iPhone.  Kati had the idea for Kindara while working for TED.com in 2009. Her training as a birth doula gives her a powerful commitment to make sure that women have access to safe, effective options to manage their health and fertility. Will studied mechanical engineering and economics at McGill University, and is a professional engineer with experience in sustainable energy technologies and data monitoring.

The Team is rounded out by Joshua Klein, MD is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist and a Clinical and Research Fellow in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.

According Kindara, Your body tells you a story about your fertility every month. They’ll teach you how to listen in and learn what your body is telling you.  After consulting with reproductive endocrinologists, they come to a simple conclusion: Cervical Fluid and Basal Body Temperature (BBT) are equally important, and so deserve equal representation on a fertility chart. Cervical fluid tells you when the Fertile Window opens, and BBT tells you when it closes.  They serve different, and complementary roles in determining fertility. Additionally, the interaction between the two signs provides more insight into the fertility of the woman, than either of the two signs can on their own. This is why displaying them together on the graph is so useful – which is exactly what their iphone app does.

Kindara is a simple and elegant fertility charting app for iPhone and iPod Touch. Kindara features temperature, cervical fluid, menstruation, and cycle day so you can see when you’re fertile. Simple data entry with your daily temperature reading, and an easy to understand graph make charting your cycle as easy as a tap of the screen.
