Conference For Girls/Young Women Encourages Women Of Tomorrow

Old Dominion University

On June 2, 2012, Old Dominion University was the site of the Fourth Annual Hampton Roads Conference for Girls and Young Women.

The event was sponsored by a joint effort from the Community Development Corporation and Old Dominion University.

The purpose of the event is to encourage girls and young women to adopt a healthier lifestyle, while promoting the fostering of leadership skills and developing careers.

This year’s key speaker was track and field athlete Marion Jones, who spoke of her triumphs and obstacles she overcame as she made her way in her sport. Also featured was the President and CEO of ARDX, Angela Reddix. ARDX specializes in health-care management with an expertise in both Medicare and Medicaid.

For the third time, Reddix’s daughter, Anyssa, helped her mother present their interactive session called “Lady in the Mirror”.

The conference covered an assortment of topics, including self-image, having a healthy relationship, increasing your financial knowledge, bullying and being able to appreciate diversity.

Attendees were encouraged to share their own experiences, which several did. Anyssa Reddix not only spoke of her dreams and goals, but also of her recent achievements. One of those achievements took place in 2010 when she wrote and published her first book entitled “Magic of Friendship”.
