More Women Slated For CEO Positions

Women are beginning to make their move to close the gender gap in executive positions. With pressure being applied to companies to diversify their corporate workforce and an ever-growing pool of qualified female candidates, companies are beginning to take notice.

Still, they have a lot of ground to make up. Currently, only 35 of the Fortune 1000 companies have female executives.

Those positions are also showing up in big places. Out of the Fortune 500 companies, almost 73 percent have at least one executive officer who is a woman. That is an impressive achievement considering the fact that only 14 percent of executive officer positions are comprised of women.

Some companies have already taken the step to shift genders in their executive positions. Frontier Communications Corp is one. Not only is their CEO a woman, but three of the six positions who report directly to her are also women. Campbell Soup CO is another company with a female CEO.

Even though women might not be in the top executive position now, they have worked their way up in order to be in position to be able to take over when the time comes. McKinsey and Co. recently conducted a study on behalf of the Wall Street Journal. They found that out of a list of 58 large companies, 24 percent of their senior vice presidents were women.
