Tuesday, April 17 might be Equal Pay Day, but according to a recent study the facts spell out something totally different. In todays’ world, a woman still earns only 77 percent of every dollar earned by a man annually and 82 percent of every dollar earned by them on a weekly basis.

The study, which was released by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research (IWPR), reinforces the earning gap between genders that makes up almost all of the most common positions held by both women and men.

The report, which is released annually by IWPR, is collected by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and is based on data collected from full-time workers of various occupations. It focuses on the 20 most common occupations of both genders within seven major occupational groups in the work force. The report looks at earnings based on certain factors. Those factors include race, sex and ethnicity.

Out of the 20 occupations, only one, “bookkeeping and auditing clerks”, showed an equal median pay for both sexes Surprisingly, one category, “stock clerks and order fillers”, saw women making about 3 percent more than their male counterparts.

One of the largest earning gaps was in “property, real estate and community association managers”, which came in at 61 percent from that of men. The gap between female and male “financial managers” was 65.9 percent.
