Study: More Women Taking Jobs And Creating Stay-At-Home Dads

Research conducted by the Boston College Center for Work & Family shows that it is becoming more and more common for the roles of women and men to become reversed. The report, entitled “The New Dad: Right At Home” shows that more women are entering the workforce as the primary breadwinner while more dads are staying home.

The study covered 31 stay-at-home dads and their spouses. In the past, it was believed that the decision to switch roles was due to layoffs and the downsizing of companies due to the economy. But this new research shows that the decision is usually voluntary.

The men in the survey listed various reasons why they opted to remain home while their spouses re-entered the workforce. The most common reasons included consideration based on income, career and the decision to offer more satisfying life goals for their families.

Not only are these men reportedly taking care of the home and children, but they are also offering crucial support to their working spouse while they pursue their careers.

This report follows two previous studies on the same subject entitled “The New Dad: Exploring Fatherhood within a Career Context” and “The New Dad: Caring, Committed and Conflicted”. Each of these reports also pointed out a change in role reversal, as well.
